Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how O'Leary Labs (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the O'Leary Labs mobile app and website (the “Service”). O'Leary Labs is a private, invitation-only community platform operated for member organizations and their chapters.
Information we collect
- Account & profile: your name, email address, and any display name, photo, bio, or title you provide.
- Authentication: we use a third-party authentication provider (Clerk) to sign you in; it processes your login credentials on our behalf.
- Content you create: posts, comments, event RSVPs, direct and group messages, photos, and reactions.
- Payments: if your chapter uses paid events or dues, payments are processed by Stripe; we receive transaction metadata but not full card details.
- Device & usage: app version, a push-notification token (if you enable notifications), and basic diagnostic data.
- Location: if you open the map and grant permission, your approximate location is used on your device to center the map near you. We do not store your location.
How we use information
- To provide the Service — your chapter feed, events, directory, messaging, and payments.
- To send notifications you have opted into (messages, mentions, announcements, posts, events).
- To keep the community safe — reviewing reports and enforcing blocks and our Terms.
- To send you occasional product/organization emails only if you opted in; you can opt out at any time.
How information is shared
Your profile and content are visible to members of the chapters you belong to — not to the general public and not indexed by search engines. We share data with service providers who operate the platform on our behalf (authentication, payments, cloud hosting, push delivery) under confidentiality obligations. We do not sell your personal information.
Account deletion & data retention
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Danger zone in the mobile app. You may also request deletion from our website at /delete-account (useful if you can no longer sign in); web requests are verified by our team before they are actioned.
When a deletion is initiated, your account and personal data are flagged for deletion and retained for 30 days, then permanently and irreversibly deleted. If you sign back in within that 30-day window, the deletion is cancelled and your account and data are fully restored. During the window the data is retained solely to enable this recovery.
On permanent deletion we remove your profile, posts, comments, messages, reactions, RSVPs, and chapter memberships. Records we are required to retain for legal, tax, or financial reasons (for example, payment/transaction records) are kept only as long as required and are disassociated from your identity where possible.
Your choices & rights
- Access, correct, or delete your data (see account deletion above).
- Control notifications in Settings → Notifications; manage email opt-in at sign-up or on request.
- Block or report other members from their profile.
- Depending on your region, you may have additional rights (e.g., GDPR/CCPA) — contact us to exercise them.
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Security & retention
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data and retain it only as long as needed to provide the Service or as required by law.
